:: PROGRAMME: Thursday, July 31st 2003 ::

:: DRUGPUNK Director: Sam Bannister - 4 mins ::
A highly unusual music video commissioned by the band City Rockers through Milk records to promote an extreme song that was never likely to get air-play, mainly because of its suspect lyrics. The film is a late-night, possibly-in-a-bit-of-a-state piece of work presenting a subversive approach to Teletext transmissions which includes occasional snatches of hard-core porn.

:: CUSP Director: Jason Brooks - 12 mins ::
Premiered in this year's Brighton Fringe Film Festival, Cusp is a visually impressive drama originally shot in 16mm. It tells the story of a security guard taking the c
cigarette-break of a lifetime.

:: HORSEBOY GETS A GUN Director: Jane Couldrey - 5 mins ::
Using a mixture of live action and animation, this highly original take on the Western genre tells a story of cowboy adventure and true love. Half-man and half-beast, Horseboy longs to be with his horsey love, but also seeks human-style adventure on the range. His gang of seven magnificent desperados inevitably destroys itself in a spectacular shoot out at the Carrousel corral. Will Horseboy ride off into the sunset to find true horsey love? And what becomes of his gun?

Warning: contains images which may disturb horse-lovers

:: THE GRATER GOOD Director: Kate Davis - 7 mins ::
Actress Kate Davis' first film as director/writer tells the story of Bernie, a simple man who loves his job in a cheese grater factory. In fact, he more than loves it; he lives for it. Having learned the secrets of those powerful cheddar shredders, Bernie knows it is only a matter of time before the rest of the world will have to pay attention to his discovery.

:: STORY OF A STAR Directors: MetaLuna - 1 min ::
This one-minute gem is definately worth a second outing. It was inspired by a series of striking 1950s TV adverts promoting a range of new synthetics benefiting women. The Deering Milliken Research Corporation sponsored the ads to push Agilon, a 'new and better stretch yarn for stockings'. Using material sourced from the Internet Movie Archive, Brighton-based VJs MetaLuna have reinterpreted this footage, accompanied by dark and foreboding sound track.

:: SEASIDE PRIDE Director: Will Jewell - 3 mins ::
This film from local film-maker, Will Jewell, is a lively split-screen look at last year's huge Gay Pride festival, documenting the sights, sounds, colours and eye-catching costumes.

:: JUMPIN' PILLS Director: Herve Rebolj - 3 mins ::
Premiere screening of a new animation from the director of Adventures of Blue, a hit from our 2002 Brighton Festival screenings. This one is set in a surreal electronic world and concerns the rescue of a lonely 'pill' from certain death. Fast, furious and very funny, it features loads of dodgy special effects and a knock-out soundtrack by Brighton-based djPrave.

:: PHOTOGRAPHING INVISIBLE THINGS Director: Penny Grylls - 8 mins ::
After finding the remnants of a wedding photograph, a man begins to create a life of memories by photographing empty locations. Without dialogue, this film captures the poetic imagination, telling its story through carefully paced visuals and effective sound.

"Imaginative story-telling is at a premium in most British films. Photographing Invisible Things is just that - highly personal and intriguing." - Derek Malcolm

:: TEST 23 Director: Adam Lavis - 4 mins ::
First public screening of a new animation from Animal Monday. Inspired by the famous test sequence featured in the 1974 Alan J. Pakula's The Parallax View, Test 23 is a response to the Iraq War.

:: DATE WITH DESTINY Director: Peter Kalenkiewicz - 5 mins ::
A blind date goes wrong. Seriously. Turns out OK in the end, though. New film from a local film-maker. One to watch.

:: ALL SAINTS Director: Ben Bruges - 5 mins ::
When a tragic fire almost destroys London's famous All Saints church in West Dulwich, Noriaki Maeda's sculptures contribute to its regeneration. A touching, sensitively edited documentary from the director of My Dad The Womble.

:: GOOD TIMES Director: Ste Mcgregor - 4 mins ::
Another chance to see this innovative music video from local animator, Ste McGregor, to promote the latest single from Brighton band, The Lifters, released this summer on Skint Records.

:: STOP PRESS ::
