:: LAPTOP JAM
Director: Richard Harris - 25 mins ::
The Brighton-based Laptop
Jams group have been described by Bizarre magazine,
as 'an aural and visual barrage so innovative and
downright weird that your brain could get bruised'.
Having established a cult following in Brighton
and the South East, they are now receiving national
attention and perform monthly at London's ICA.
Laptop Jam captures the experience with a fast-paced blend of live footage, surreal-ish interviews and eerily distorted images. It also features a soundtrack of original funk, techno and ambient music created and performed by the jammers themselves. |

:: COMPARED TO WHAT
Director: Richard Harris - 20 mins ::
A revealing documentary about
Lawrence Jones, leader of The Brighton Jazz All-Stars
and sought-after musician on the European circuit.
Born in a Philadelphia ghetto, Jones is a multi-instrumentalist
who studied music at Berklee College and has performed
with the likes of Grover Washington and Chaka Khan.
Compared To What is an affectionate portrait of this dedicated and talented musician. It includes some remarkable archive material plus action-packed footage of his memorable 3rd Anniversary gig at Brighton's Lion & Lobster pub filmed in March 2003. |

:: BREAKSPACE
Director: Andy Galletly - 4 mins ::
This is the first film from
the psi-o collective which explores a fantasy world
of corrupted codes and reciprocating audiovisual
patterns. The breakSpace character embodies a server-based
virus which, although having the primary function
of corruption, can also be seen to aid in the progress
of a system. Great soundtrack!
breakSpace = drum + bass + break-beat + the hardware and software used to create it. |

:: NAILS
Director: Sigrun Lydsdottir - 5 mins ::
The inspiration for this piece emerged when the director stopped biting her
my nails and realized she loved making sounds and noises with them. Could you
play your fingernails like an instrument? she wondered. This film takes us on
an audio visual journey where fingernails are responsible for all the noises
ranging from tipping glass to water-pipes, scratching chalk board to guitar cases,
from pots and pans to cardboard.
Nails has been screened at the Short Cuts, the Icelandic Film Festival (September 2002) and Jump Ship Rat, Liverpool, (May 200) |
