:: DUAL-DUEL
- Director Rob Chiu - 6 mins :: This scary atmospheric short from Rob Chiu, creator of last year's remarkable Project Mayhem, features
his trademark high production values and scratchy
soundtrack to tell the story of a young woman being
chased/stalked to (possible) destruction in a deserted
office block late one night. The remarkable climax
is both unexpected and unsettling.
::
BABY'S BLOOD - Director Natasha Westlake - 15
mins :: Seated in an unusual bar, a slightly intoxicated and rather troubled man is offered an ominous looking cocktail intriguingly named 'Baby's Blood' by an altogether too pleasant bartender. Will he drink the simmering concoction or will he let his imagination get the better of him?
::
PACAYA - Director Dan Savery - 10 mins :: A beautifully shot film about the director's recent journey through Central America. Striking images and an original ambient soundtrack combine to produce a moving and at times poignant experience.
:: LIFE IS A CIRCUS - Director Max Hochrad - 11 mins:: Nominated for the Time Out Best London Film Award, Max Hochrad's film tells the story of Chris, who never thought he was good enough for Cath, the girl of his dreams. Her mother said he wasn't and she must be right. And when she leaves the small town they grew up in to start a new life in London, he follows her to spend his days busking in Cambridge Circus hoping to find her - after all, he was told, everyone passes there eventually.
:: CONTAKT - Director Chris Jeeves - 8 mins :: Amusing, well-made Sci-Fi pic which tells the story of a young boy who finds a visiting alien at the bottom of his garden. The pair strike up an unusual friendship, despite some hilarious communication problems - and then the parents get involved. Good SFX.
:: FIND MY BABY - 3 mins :: Domestic claymation drama story about lost love and record turntables.
:: WAR - Directors - John Lumgair/Chris Cox/Jon Taylor - 5mins:: One room, one lady, a beard and The Game. To some, this is merely a piece of fun, but to others, particularly the beardy one, this is a battle to the death. Could you handle the pressures of war and come out triumphant? That's the challenge facing an obsessed commander of plastic men in this excellent animation.
::
THE DARK CONTINENT - Director Sam Needham - 3
mins:: Funny, explicit line-drawing animation cleverly utilising (and sending-up) porn imagery to reveal the fragility of male sexuality.
::
VALERIAN - Jamie Paul Quantrill - 13 mins :: Macabre love story about a chance meeting that brings together the disconnected existences of two people living on either side of a desolate estuary. A modern fairy tale, it follows the path of their strange relationship to its bizarre conclusion involving an unknowing interaction with the lonely environment surrounding them.
::
GRAFFITTI - Directors Mary Browning, Dave Ulliot & Alice
Williams - 6 mins:: Revealing documentary looking at the world of the graffitti artist. Filmed in Brighton, it features a typically odd bunch of Brightonian talking heads plus the vicar of a well-known city church with a particularly dry sense of humour (we hope).
:: MY DEPRESSION - Director Tiffany Howard - 9 mins:: Powerful documentary looking at depression and one woman's struggle to overcome it and lead a full life - as a film-maker.
