PROGRAMME: Sunday, March 16th 2008
At this month's screening we presented a selection of the latest films from Screen South's 2007 Digital Shorts scheme and graduates of the Metropolitan and Canterbury Christ Church film schools, in addition to new work from the indie sector. Add the usual VJ sets, late bar, and relaxed cafe-style atmosphere and you had a film night par excellence (that's French, you know).
BRIGHTON IN WINTER - Director Nick Yeomans - 3 mins New film from one of our 'Visit Brighton' competition winners revealing the raw beauty of our fair city in winter, from the patchwork quilt (?) of Mile Oak to the sea breeze on the Palace Pier. As a famous singer once sang: “Hangleton swings like a pendulum do!”
AND THE COLOURS ARE LIKE SUMMER - Director Gabriel Tupinamba - 4 mins A couple’s screaming argument is intercut with provocative and bizarre images.
DO MAKE FRIENDS – Director Alom Shaha - 9 mins The anxieties of a young Chinese girl at her summer holiday club.
DREAMER – Director Ella Vakkasova - 9 mins Powerful drama about the murderous daydreams of a teenager on the London underground.
LIONS ARE GREEN - Director David Bond - 5 mins A young boy rebels against conformity in his art class.
LOSING IT – Director Victoria Shelly - 6 mins A mother and father slowly come to terms with their daughter leaving home.
SQUARE EYES – Director Dan Wilson - 5 mins Superb music video/film about TV addiction.
STUDY ON REPETITION - Director Gabriel Tupinamba - 8 mins Surreal B/W comedy about four characters caught in an endless cycle of discovery and disappearance.
FESTIVE FEVER - Director Ciaran Reynolds - 5 mins Creepy claymation about a young boy making his way through various darkened rooms to Santa’s Grotto.
THE TINY EXISTENCE OF CHRISTOPE LA LONGUE - Director Danielle Devereux - 8 mins From the director of one of last year’s festival hits, The Button Thief, this atmospheric and superby photographed tragi-comedy explores the restricted world of a lonely, bored man.
THE JOURNEY OF THE PIANO TUNER – Director Danny Weinstein - 8 mins Intimate, poetic documentary telling the story of piano-tuner, Anva Luc, and the day that changed his life.
CARLOS THE DOG – Director Russell Jones - 4 min A man is driven insane by his pet Chihuahua. Insane!
JUST ANOTHER FIREWORK - Director Alberto Mattiussi - 7 mins Venice has been destroyed and Paris is occupied, meaning an inconvenient change of holiday plans for a typical London couple. Perhaps an African safari instead?
