:: BRIGHTON
FRINGE FESTIVAL 2003 - first screening ::
:: PROGRAMME: Thursday, May 8th @ Prince Albert pub, Trafalgar Street ::
:: THE MAN WHO ATE HIMSELF TO DEATH - Director Richard Harris - 15 mins :: This dark satire is set in a privatised Britain of the near future. It tells the story of James T. Swallow, consultant surgeon in medical robotics at the high-tech Wal Mart hospital in London's Docklands (motto: 'your health is our business'). Sidelined by his own brilliance and bitter about a recent divorce, he plots his revenge on society in general - and his ex-wife in particular.

:: YOU'RE
GONNA WAKE UP ONE MORNING - Director Mark
Jay - 28 mins :: A romantic comedy-adventure set in Brighton which tells the story of the unlikely pairing of two teenagers: a punk girl and a townie boy who have somehow ended up on a blind date. While attempting to score some drugs, they overhear a murder and robbery being planned by two hitmen. Featuring legendary Punk/Rasta DJ and film-maker Don Letts, this film is about punk values and the need to be aware that appearances can be deceptive.
:: PRESENT
- Director Kieron Butler - 10 minutes :: During the 2003 Brighton
Festival, the Fireraisers theatre company
created an installation inside a shop window
in the old Hanningtons department store which
told the story of a man who spontaneously
combusted. This is an idiosynchratic film
from the director of Venus & Mars about
an unusual work of art and the mixed reactions
of passers-by when they noticed something
rather strange on their high street.
:: MOTORING BRITAIN - Director Callum Morrison - 6 mins :: No, this isn't one of those dodgy 50s travelogues, but a decidedly weird and wired short from one of Brighton's favourite animators. It starts off innocently enough with a small child playing in a suburban back garden, but soon develops into something far more sinister. This is the stuff of childhood nightmares and adult fantasies. And hey, what's wrong with 50s travelogues?
:: CUSP - Director Jason Brooks - 12 mins :: The premiere screening of a visually stunning drama originally shot in 16mm. It tells the story of a security guard taking the cigarette-break of a lifetime.
:: MIXMASTERS - Directors Sam Bannister and Stuart Fortune - 10 mins :: Originally made for ITV's
Mixmasters series, this extended music video
is based upon an eight track medley by Fila Brazilia.
The directors worked separately in London and
Norway to create a playful call-and- response
theme to the music, featuring cowboys & indians,
cowboy builders, Indian restaurateurs, hip hop
kids and assorted vegetables.
:: SLEEPWALKING - Director Dominique Golden - 5mins :: Scary new drama fom Primal Pictures sneak-previewed at our all-day event on May 4. It is late at night and a young woman is alone in her house preparing for bed. When she finally falls asleep her hair starts to wake up, growing ever longer and binding together to form a spider shape. The 'spider' then proceeds to drag her unconscious body out of her bed and around the house. Will she survive this horrific nightmare?
::
BUCKETHEAD AND THE RAPTURE - Director Matt
Brownsword - 9 mins :: Made under the Digital Shorts scheme 2002, supported by Lighthouse Media and The Film Council, this unusual mixed media animation tells the story of a boy born with a bucket on his head.
