For this very special event, we've joined forces with the UK Film Council and Screen South to present an exciting programme of brand-new shorts from the UK's most talented up-and-coming animators. We've scoured the nation these past few month to bring you what we believe is the best collection of new animation you'll see this year.

In addition to a great line-up of new work from around the the UK, we are presenting seven animated ultra-shorts made by participants of our innovative 'One Minute Wonder- Animation' scheme. Developed in association with Brighton's Lighthouse Arts & Training and supported by local production house, Brighton TV, the scheme has provided cash, training and mentoring support to help a small group of talented local animators produce these stunning films.

FASTER BIGGER BETTER MORE! - Director Dominic Lyddon - 3 mins - 2006

This technically accomplished music video was commissioned to promote a new local drum 'n bass act, Prolix, and is a first-time film from a young Brighton-based graphic designer. Dominic has kindly allowed us to use this image from his film as the official logo of the 'One Minute Wonder - Animation' scheme.

DELUSION - Director Philip Day - 6 mins - 2006

Breathtaking animation about the journey of Mechanical Man, trapped forever within a twisting labyrinth of underground steel corridors. This superbly realised allegory about the future of humanity also has a great soundtrack.

ON THE JOB - Director Adam Steel - 6 mins - 2006

Bored with his daily routine, Graham finds it hard to muster enthusiasm for work. On the other hand, Ian is full of it. Either way, neither of them is going to have a very good day ‘on the job’.

HORN OK PLEASE - Director Joel Simon - 9 mins - 2006

Gentle, observant and wryly humorous film about the hard-working Indian taxi driver, Karma, and his little friend, Arun, who dream of one day earning enough rupees to own their own taxi.

Best Animation - 2006 Cine-Jeune Film Festival

BOWS & ARROWS - Director Stephen Irwin - 6 mins - 2006

Striking, darkly imaginative animation about an elderly man lying ill in a hospital bed; his only companion a superhero doll he has owned since a boy. As an Evil Robot wreaks mayhem in the city outside, he comes to the horrific conclusion that he might be responsible for the carnage taking place.

DOG TIRED - Director Greg McLoud - 10 mins - 2004

Darkly comic tale of a man’s turmoil with sleep deprivation and the horrific visions of canine pursuers it induces.

LIFE GOES ON - Director Trevor Hardy - 6 mins - 2005

A tale of life, love and loss - and the true meaning of what it is to be human.

MY FRIEND MARJORIE - Director Louise Wilde - 5 mins - 2006

Marjorie is an 89 year old retired vaudevillian actress. Although her fortunes have faded, the memories of a magnificent past still resonate.

TEN THOUSAND PICTURES - Director Robin King - 3 mins - 2005

An exhilarating rollercoaster ride through the animated pictures of Sarah’s world, as she seeks revenge upon the film star who broke her heart.

Winner - 2006 Talent Circle 'Best Super Short'

OUT OF JOINT - Director Peter Peake - 4 mins - 2006

In a nose-centric world, a man battles against a serious nasal deficiency.

Rushes Soho Shorts Awards - 'Discreet Animation Award' runner-up.

A DAY IN FLAT EARTH - Directors Sally Stevens and Sarah Cockings - 4 mins - 2005

Inspired by the US-based Flat Earth Society, this clever and amusing 'two-dimensional' film uses live, stop-frame animation to create an unusual dance film shot entirely on a Brighton backstreet.
