LAPTOP JAM - Director Richard Harris - 2003- 24 mins
The Brighton-based Laptop Jams colllective
have been described by Bizarre magazine, as 'an aural and
visual barrage so innovative and downright weird that your brain
could get bruised'. Having established a cult following in Brighton
and the South East, they are now receiving national attention and
perform regularly at venues and festivals around the UK, including
London's ICA and even the Victoria & Albert museum. Laptop
Jam captures the experience with a fast-paced blend of live
footage, surreal-ish interviews and eerily distorted images. It
also features a soundtrack of original funk, techno and ambient
music created and performed by the Jammers themselves.

COLLECTORS OF WOOD STREET - Director Mark Windows - 2004 - 10
mins
Since its bustling heyday in the 1970s, Walthamstow's unique Collectors
Centre has gradually declined to the point where it barely survives.
Nowadays, only a few traders and eccentrics remain in this almost
forgotten part of East London. One of them (left) owns a record
stall and his prodigious musical memory is able to come up with
the song title and artist of any vinyl record - 45 or 33 rpm - merely
by being given its catalogue number. He also does the world's worst
impression of Mick Jagger.

WEST PIER BURNING - Director Richard Harris - 2004 - 7 mins
You've probably seen newsreel footage of the West Pier on fire,
but these amazing images filmed and digitally manipulated by Brighton
video artists, MetaLuna, are something else. Accompanied
by a Faithless mix and with the real West Pier in the background,
watching this film is moving experience. But why didn't they torch
the Conference Centre, instead - and do us all a favour?

DESPERATELY SEEKING DAVE - Director Maxine Badger - 2004 - 4
mins
A quirky, sometime hilarious film from Brighton film-maker, Maxine

Broomfield with a sense of humour - and lots of rain. Is this a
mockumentary or for real? Impossible to tell.

THE MEETING PLACE Director Richard Harris - 2002 - 13
mins
Straddling the Brighton/Hove border, just a stones throw
from the rusting West Pier, the famous Meeting Place beach
café was an institution as popular with locals as the Palace
Pier was with visitors. After almost 80 years of trading, the original
kiosk was replaced in 2003 with a new structure. This affectionate
film tells the story of a much-loved part of Brighton's seaside
history using rare rchive footage and interviews with the owner,
Rodney Posner, his staff and some of the more eccentric customers.
It also contains a wonderful soundtrack of original dance hits from
the 1920's and 30s.
